Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-15-4, 31pts

  • Sounders FC 2 played to a 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday night at Starfire Stadium to continue its drop off the pace in the race for the playoffs.

  • S2 took the lead on a 21st-minute goal by Henry Wingo, but couldn’t hold on to that advantage as it surrendered an equalizer in the second half to remain in 11th place in the USL Western Conference.

  • Shooting accuracy has been a problem for S2 all season, as the side has recorded the fifth-worst shooting accuracy rate in the league of 43.46 percent of its shots finding the target.

  • S2 has also struggled at the other end of the field, having allowed 155 shots on target to opponents this season, the third-highest total in the league behind only Toronto FC II (164) and the LA Galaxy II (161).

Phoenix Rising FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-7-7, 40pts

  • Rising FC continued its drive toward a first playoff berth in club history with a 2-0 victory against Western Conference leader Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.

  • Goals by Sam Hamilton and Jason Johnson in either half proved enough for Rising FC to notch its fourth win in the past five games and create a four-point gap to ninth-place Orange County SC going into this week's action.

  • Phoenix is in range of fifth place as it enters Wednesday night's contest, as a victory would move it ahead of both fifth-place Sacramento Republic FC and sixth-place Tulsa Roughnecks FC and within nine points of a place in the postseason.

  • Phoenix will be without Didier Drogba on Wednesday night after he was handed a one-game suspension by the Independent Discipline Panel for kicking out during a dead-ball situation at Real Monarchs SLC's Danny Cruz in Saturday's game.

  • Phoenix will face a run of three games in eight days over the course of its trip to Cascadia, with visits to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Sunday afternoon and the Portland Timbers 2 next Wednesday night rounding out the trip.

Series Notes

  • Rising FC moved ahead in the series between the clubs on Sept. 2 as it took a 2-0 victory at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex that moved the side to 3-2-0 against S2 all-time.
