TUKWILA, WAColorado Springs Switchbacks FC and Seattle Sounders 2 battled to a 1-1 tie at the Starfire Sports Complex on Saturday evening, as the pair of Western Conference teams continued their pursuit of a place in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs. With the result, the Switchbacks will close the night in the conference’s eighth and final playoff position, while S2 sits four points behind them. Henry Wingo opened the scoring for Seattle in the 21st minute, while Jack Jones netted the equalizer for Colorado Springs just before halftime. Seattle is now 9-15-4 this year, while the Switchbacks are 9-11-8 overall.

Scoring:
21’ – SEA – Henry Wingo (Zach Mathers)
45’ – COS – Jack Jones (Josh Suggs)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Both teams are still alive and fighting for a spot in the USL Cup Playoffs, and while each could have used all three points, the draw favors the Switchbacks. Currently in the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference, Colorado Springs will be looking to close out the regular season strong and is benefited by the fact that three of its four remaining games are at home.
  • 2. Seattle will need to start earning wins if it wants any chance at making the USL Cup Playoffs. Now four points off the pace following Saturday’s results, S2 will need to earn as many points as it can from its final four games of the regular season. That will be no easy task either, as games against playoff contenders Phoenix Rising FC, Tulsa Roughnecks FC, Swope Park Rangers and OKC Energy FC are all on the docket.
  • 3. While neither goalkeeper was able to secure a shutout on Saturday, both Tyler Miller and Moise Pouaty turned in notable performances. Miller, in particular, made many eye-opening saves, especially in the second half. Overall, both Pouaty and Miller finished with seven saves apiece.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:

Tyler Miller, Seattle Sounders 2 – The S2 netminder had seven total saves, including sensational stops that may be considered for the USL Save of the Week.
