Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-15-3, 30pts

  • S2 comes into this match after earning a 1-1 draw against Reno 1868 FC last Saturday night at Starfire Stadium.

  • It took just one minute for Seattle to open the scoring as Zach Mathers scored off a curling free kick for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.

  • Sam Rogers was named to the USL Team of the Week's bench following his strong performance at the back for S2 as he recorded six tackles and posted an 85 percent passing accuracy rate.

  • The goal ended a two-match run without a goal for S2, and the result broke a two-game losing streak for the side. Sitting four points out of the playoff positions with five games to go in the regular season, however, Saturday's game is shaping up as a must-win for the side.

  • The Switchbacks saw their playoff hopes take a serious hit in their last outing as they fell 2-1 against Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday at Weidner Field.

  • Forward AJ Ajeakwa scored an equalizer seven minutes from full time in his debut for Colorado Springs, but the hosts conceded three minutes later to drop to eighth place in the USL Western Conference.

  • Colorado Springs is now on a four-game winless streak and sits level on points with ninth-place OKC Energy FC having played one game more than its playoff rival.

  • Switchbacks goalkeeper Moise Pouaty is tied for the USL-lead with 83 saves this season, but has posted only a 67.77 save percentage this season.
