Charleston Battery news and notes

  • Current record: 11-7-8, 30pts

  • The Battery come into this match following a week off, having not played since their 1-0 loss to Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC on Sept. 2.

  • Charleston's scheduled game last Saturday against the Charlotte Independence was postponed due to the arrival of Hurricane Irma in the region, and was rescheduled for Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Charleston announced on Friday the club had acquired Alec Kann on loan from MLS partner Atlanta United FC, with the goalkeeper returning to the club after joining the Battery prior to the 2012 season early in his career.

  • The Battery have lost just one match at home this season and has three of its last six matches at home, something the club will hope turns around its form after two straight defeats and only one win in its last 10 games.

Richmond Kickers news and notes

  • Current record: 6-13-8, 26pts

  • The Kickers claimed a 2-0 victory against Orlando City B on Sept. 7 at Orlando City Stadium which ended OCB's 12-game undefeated streak.

  • Goals from Mikey Minutillo and Sunny Jane led the side to victory, with Jane also sending in the free kick for Minutillo's opening goal of the game. Jane's performance earned him USL Player of the Week honors.

  • The win continued something of a resurgence for the Kickers who have now won three of their last four matches despite being well off the pace in the race for the USL Cup Playoffs with the side 10 points out of eighth place with five games to go.

  • Richmond's victory against OCB was its first road win of the season, making the Kickers the last team in the USL this season to record an away victory.

Series Notes

  • The Battery lead the regular season series 7-5-5 since the inception of the USL in 2011 with each side having taken victory once so far this year in the prior two meetings.
