PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced on Thursday the club had signed goalkeeper Brenden Alfery for the remainder of the 2017 season, pending USL and USSF approval.

Alfery spent the 2016 season with the Riverhounds, his first as a professional after competing at Robert Morris University. With the club looking for depth after injuries to Keasel Broome and Trey Mitchell, Alfery impressed while training with the club.

"Brenden has trained with us for the past week and has shown very well,” Riverhounds Head Coach Dave Brandt said. “With season-ending injuries to both [Keasel Broome and Trey Mitchell], we are fortunate to have in Brenden a keeper who is fit, healthy in form, and already having had experience with our organization"

A native of Cheswick, Pa., Alfery has spent the better part of both his amateur and professional career in Allegheny County. He competed for Central Catholic High School before starting his collegiate career at Division III Grove City College. Following his sophomore year at Grove City, Alfery transferred to Robert Morris University (RMU) and registered seven shutouts across 37 starts from 2014-15.

The club expects Alfery to be available for this weekend’s match against the Rochester Rhinos. Additionally, MLS loanee Alex Kapp has been returned to Minnesota United FC in a corresponding roster move.
