Orange County SC news and notes

  • Current record: 8-8-9, 33pts

  • Orange County earned a 2-1 victory against the Swope Park Rangers on Saturday night as Irvin Parra’s first goal for the club proved the game-winner.

  • The victory was OCSC’s first at its new permanent home, Champions Soccer Stadium. The side had gone winless in its first four games at the venue.

  • Goalkeeper Charlie Lyon was only called on to make one save against the Rangers, and is now sixth in the USL with 72 saves this season. Lyon is the only player to have played every minute this season for OCSC.

  • Orange County sits one point behind eighth-place Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the Western Conference standings, and would move into the playoff positions with a win on Wednesday night.

San Antonio FC news and notes

  • Current record: 13-2-10, 49pts

  • San Antonio grabbed a late point on Saturday night in a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy II as Michael Reed scored in the 88th minute.

  • The goal was Reed’s second of the season as the midfielder played a key role late in a second consecutive contest. Reed had earned USL Team of the Week honors in Week 24 for his role in SAFC’s victory against Real Monarchs SLC on Sept. 2.

  • SAFC will become the second team to clinch a place in the USL Cup Playoffs with a victory against Orange County, and would also open the door for Reno 1868 FC to claim a berth this weekend.

  • Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo sits on 10 shutouts for the season, and would need four in the club’s final seven games of the season to set a new individual single-season record.

Series Notes

  • The teams played to a 1-1 draw at Toyota Field earlier this season, leaving the all-time series all square at 1-1-1.
