1868 FC closes in on record in visit to Seattle

TUKWILA, Wash. – Reno 1868 FC is within sight of the USL single-season record for goals scored, and is on a six-game winning streak, when it visits a Seattle Sounders FC 2 side in desperate need of a victory to boost its playoff hopes when the teams meet on Saturday night at Starfire Stadium. Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-15-2, 29pts

  • Seattle conceded a pair of late goals in a 2-0 defeat to Phoenix Rising FC last Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex, which put another dent in the club’s playoff hopes.

  • S2 has fallen in two consecutive games, and is now five points out of the eighth and final playoff place with six games to go in the regular season.

  • Seattle has also been held scoreless in each of its last two outings, a downturn for an attack that sits tied for 10th in the USL with 38 goals this season.

  • S2 has recorded only five shutouts this season, with its 52 goals against the most in the league this season.

  • Reno earned its sixth consecutive victory with a 2-1 victory against the LA Galaxy II on Wednesday night at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium in the second game of its three-game trip.

  • Darwin Espinal scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half for 1868 FC against Los Dos after the teams had exchanged goals in the first half.

  • Reno now has 59 goals this season, two off the USL single-season record of 61 goals set by the New York Red Bulls II last season.

  • Jamaican forward Dane Kelly is looking to break a run of three games without a goal on Saturday as he looks to regain the lead in the race for the USL Golden Boot.
