TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer League has announced that Saturday’s scheduled contest between Bethlehem Steel FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies has been postponed to Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Goodman Stadium to allow the Rowdies’ players and staff to return home ahead of the potential arrival of Hurricane Irma to the region this weekend.

“The league understood the Rowdies’ desire to return home to attend to personal matters and be with family ahead of the potential arrival of Hurricane Irma this weekend,” said USL VP of League Operations Brett Luy. “We appreciate the understanding shown by Steel FC in this situation.”

The Rowdies will play their game on Wednesday night against the Harrisburg City Islanders as scheduled before returning to St. Petersburg, Fla. The National Weather Service in Miami, Fla. issued an advisory on Wednesday morning that Irma is a potentially catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane, with the anticipation it could reach South Florida by Sunday morning.
