Phoenix Rising FC news and notes

  • Current record: 9-7-6, 33pts

  • Phoenix Rising FC jumped into the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference after taking a 2-0 win against Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.

  • Rising FC left it late but got a crucial win thanks to goals from Amadou Dia and Jason Johnson, with Dia scoring not long after coming into the game as a second-half substitute midway through the second half.

  • Goalkeeper Josh Cohen impressed for Rising FC, managing three saves in the shutout that included a big save in stoppage time when Phoenix was holding a one-goal lead. Cohen's performance saw him named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.

  • Rising FC enters Wednesday's contest on a five-game undefeated streak, but faces two key games in its push for the playoffs this week as after Orange County's visit on Wednesday it heads to face seventh-place Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday night at Weidner Field.

Orange County SC news and notes

  • Current record: 7-8-8, 29pts

  • Orange County SC has seen its form dip significantly in recent weeks, compounded by their 3-1 home defeat to Reno 1868 FC on Saturday at Champions Soccer Stadium.

  • OCSC's goal against Reno only came in stoppage time, but it was a significant goal as Monday Etim scored the 1,000th goal of the USL regular season as a late consolation.

  • Orange County will be without defender Sola Abolaji on Wednesday night after his sending off in the 56th minute against Reno.

  • OCSC has not scored multiple goals in a game since a 4-0 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC on July 22, going nine games with either one or no goals since then. Orange County is 1-4-4 over that span.

Phoenix leads the all-time series 6-4-3, with Wednesday night's game the final of three meetings between the clubs this season.
