RGVFC looks to get back in to the Playoff hunt

CARSON, Calif. – Rio Grande Valley FC heads to California on Sunday with their USL Cup Playoffs hopes barely hanging on. A win against the  LA Galaxy II for the Toros would put them back in to the playoff frame with the match at Stub Hub Center Track and Field Stadium set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. PT.

LA Galaxy II news and notes

  • Current record: 6-13-4, 22pts

  • The LA Galaxy II come into this match after a tight loss against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at the Macleod Athletic Complex last Sunday afternoon.

  •  Ethan Zubak continued a good season by scoring the lone goal for Los Dos in the match but they conceded with seven minutes to play to fall 2-1 against WFC2.

  • Being at home has not been much of an advantage for Los Dos this season, with the side having taken only two victories. The side has gone 1-1-2 in its last four home games.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Current record: 7-11-7, 28pts

  • Rio Grande Valley FC comes into this match following a dramatic 1-1 draw against the Portland Timbers 2 on Wednesday.

  • Seemingly heading to defeat down a man after conceding in stoppage time, the Toros had Kai Greene score the equalizer in the 93rd minute to salvage a point.

  • The Toros sit five points out of the playoff positions in the USL Western Conference entering the weekend with seven games to go in the regular season. 

  • RGVFC will be without defender Ivan Magalhaes on Sunday following his red card against Portland. Magalhaes leads the Toros with 2,159 minutes of action this season.
