Tulsa looks to get in touch with top four

PORTLAND, Ore. – After midweek exertions in Texas, the Portland Timbers 2 return to Providence Park on Sunday hoping to take some confidence from picking up a point while Tulsa Roughnecks FC will look to get closer to the top four in the USL Western Conference in the second game of their trip to the Pacific Northwest. Due to high tempatures in the region, kickoff has been moved to 12 p.m. PT

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-18-4, 10pts

  • It has been a difficult year for T2 but on Wednesday they lifted their points total into double-figures with a 1-1 draw against Rio Grande Valley FC.

  • Portland should probably have won that match after a red card in stoppage time gave them a man-advantage that the side took advantage of as Bill Tuiloma scored his second goal in as many weeks. But it wasn’t enough as the Toros equalized just one minute later.

  • With just two wins all season, Portland are all but eliminated from playoff contention, and could be mathematically eliminated this weekend, but Sunday’s match gives them a chance to play spoiler, which will be their goal for the rest of the season.

  • Portland will be without midfielder Villyan Bijev for the contest, with the 2016 All-League selection sent on loan to fellow Western Conference side Sacramento Republic FC for the remainder of the season.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-10-3, 36pts

  • The Roughnecks started their Cascadia road trip with a 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Wednesday night.

  • Francisco Ugarte scored the lone goal of the match for Tulsa to give the Roughnecks a vital victory as they look for a top four spot in the USL Western Conference and with it a home match in the first round of the USL Cup Playoffs.

  • Wednesday night's match saw the return to action of Juan Pablo Caffa after absence through injury. Caffa provided the assist on Ugarte's goal after coming on as a second-half substitute.

  • Tulsa will have defender Modou Jadama available after he served a one-game suspension against S2 on Wednesday night.

  • The Roughnecks have equaled their wins total from the 2015 season, and more than doubled their total from a season ago, with eight games remaining in the regular season.

Series Notes

  • Tulsa won the first match the sides played this year 3-1, marking its first victory against T2. The all-time series between the two sides stands at 3-1-0 for Portland.
