Playoff hopes go on the line as FCC welcomes the Riverhounds

CINCINNATI – After getting back on track last week FC Cincinnati welcomes the most in-form team in the USL Eastern Conference as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds come to Nippert Stadium on Saturday seeking a win which would put them back in the USL Cup Playoffs places. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. ET.

FC Cincinnati news and notes

Current record: 9-9-7, 34pts

  • FC Cincinnati broke a poor run of form last Wednesday as it managed a much-needed 3-1 win over Ottawa Fury FC at Nippert Stadium after four winless matches.

  • Danni Konig managed a goal and an assist in the win, with Jimmy McLaughlin and Sem De Wit adding the other two goals as FCC took a 3-0 lead and held on against a late Ottawa charge.

  • The result saw FCC snap a run of four straight matches without a win, and they will be hoping to go on another run, having managed three straight wins before that winless run.

  • This match is vital for Cincinnati as a loss would see them drop out of the top eight and thus out of the playoff positions.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

Current record: 8-8-9, 33pts

  • The Riverhounds come in to this match following a dramatic 3-2 victory against Bethlehem Steel FC last Saturday night.

  • Just when it looked like the Riverhounds had given up a two goal lead, they fought back and quickly got a third goal to seal the three points.

  • Kevin Kerr starred, involved on all three goals with two assists and a goal, with the two other goals scored by Corey Hertzog and Jamal Jack.

  • That performance for Kerr saw him named the USL Player of the Week, with team mate Victor Souto named to the USL Team of the Week bench.

  • This match looms as potentially season-defining for Pittsburgh as a win would push it back in to the Eastern Conference top eight and with it a spot in the playoff positions. The Riverhounds come in on form thanks to three straight wins.

Series Notes

  • The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have never beaten FC Cincinnati, with FCC leading the overall series 3-0-1 following a 1-0 win over the Riverhounds in April.
