CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Independence announced on Thursday that forward Caleb Calvert has joined the team on a season-long loan from Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. This is Calvert’s third loan stint in Charlotte over the past three seasons.

With Colorado this season, the 20-year-old has 12 appearances, while recording one goal and one assist. In the prior two seasons with Charlotte, Calvert made 41 appearances with eight goals and four assists.

In 2016, his breakout six-goal and two-assist season landed Calvert on the USL’s 20 Under 20 list of top young talent.

“I'm a completely different person,” said Calvert. “Honestly, [Charlotte] has changed me for the better and even this year at Colorado has changed me, so hopefully I can bring something to the table.”

Calvert comes to a second-place Independence team at an opportune time as Jorge Herrera has been out of the 18-man selection due to injury and Alex Martinez faces a four-game suspension. In the past five games, Charlotte has one win.

“I'm excited to be here,” said Calvert. “It's a great opportunity to come in to a team that's doing so well and be a part of that and hopefully win a championship.”
