Standout late save for Fury FC against Red Bulls II topped weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC goalkeeper Callum Irving earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 23 of the 2017 season as his outstanding late save against the New York Red Bulls II last Sunday afternoon at TD Place finished top of the weekly online poll.

Fury FC trailed the Red Bulls II late in the crucial contest in the race for the USL Cup Playoffs when New York broke forward trying to cement its victory on the road. Florian Valot found space for a shot, which took a deflection on its way to goal, but Irving adjusted to make an excellent one-handed save. Ottawa then rallied to equalize in stoppage time to earn a point in the battle for the postseason.

Irving received 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Charlotte Independence goalkeeper Cody Mizell finished second for his reaction save to deny Toronto FC II’s Ben Spencer with 33 percent, while Toronto FC II goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo took third with 16 percent for his late save to deny the Independence’s Lewis Hilton a late equalizer in the same contest.
