Red Bulls II look for return to playoff positions in Ottawa

OTTAWA – After three straight losses Ottawa Fury FC is starting to hit must-win matches if it wants to reach the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs. The New York Red Bulls II are within striking distance of the top eight in the USL Eastern Conference and could find themselves back a playoff place if they manage a win in the match at TD Place on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.

Ottawa Fury FC news and notes

  • Current record: 7-9-7, 28pts

  • Ottawa is facing a tight turnaround and come in to this match after another loss, having fallen 3-1 to FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night at Nippert Stadium.

  • Fury FC managed to pull a goal back in the 63rd minute through Steevan Dos Santos to make things interesting, but it couldn’t find two more to get the game back to level terms.

  • Fury FC did control the bulk of possession against FC Cincinnati and there are promising signs there for Ottawa, with Gerardo Bruna being named to the USL Team of the Week bench this past week.

  • Ottawa has not won a match since Julian De Guzman took over as Head Coach following Paul Dalglish’s departure, sitting three matches without a win.

  • Current record: 9-11-4, 31pts

  • The Red Bulls II come in to Sunday's match full of confidence having taken a 4-0 victory against FC Cincinnati last Saturday at MSU Soccer Park.

  • A Stefano Bonomo penalty kick and a goal from Hassan Ndam gave New York a 2-0 lead at halftime before a brace from Junior Flemmings when the side was down to 10 men rounded out the scoring.

  • After scoring two goals, one minute apart, while his side was down a man, Flemmings was named to the USL Team of the Week.

  • New York has only won one match on the road this season, but comes in on form with having gone three matches undefeated, and with wins in three of its last five outings.
