CINCINNATI – FC Cincninnati got a much needed win as they defeated Ottawa Fury 3-1 in front of 20,058 fans at Nippert Stadium on Wednesday night. FC Cincinnati took the lead in the 35th minute as Tyler Polak sent in a cross from the left which Danni Konig was able to receive and he volleyed it around his defender into the net. With three minutes remaining in the half, a counter attack allowed Jimmy McLaughlin to make a 60 yard run and shoot across the face to double Cincinnati’s lead. Defender Sem De Wit made it 3-0 for Cincinnati in the 57th minute, taking the game out of reach as he bundled it home after a set piece. In the 63rd minute a set piece allowed Ottawa Fury to get back in to the match as Ramon Del Campo sent it in to Steevan Dos Santos, who sent it across the face to set up a tense finish.

Scoring:
34’ – CIN – Danni Konig (Tyler Polak)
43’ - CIN – Jimmy McLaughlin (Danni Konig)
57’ - CIN - Sem De Wit
63’ – OTT- Steevan Dos Santos (Ramon Del Campo)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. FC Cincinnati came in to this match in desperate need of a win after giving up 12 goals in four matches and being winless in those four. With two straight losses of 5-0 and 4-0, a win was much needed to keep Cincinnati in the playoff hunt. The victory also maintains a perfect record against Canadian teams as they now stand at 6-0-0 against the clubs outside of the US.

  • 2. After 215 minutes without a goal for FC Cincinnati, Konig’s goal in the 34th minute sent relief around Nippert Stadium after a difficult stretch of games for the club. It was just the second match that FC Cincinnati had scored in this month and put their good home record back on track.

  • 3. Interim Ottawa Fury Head Coach Julian De Guzman is still looking for his first win since taking over at the club after losing all three of his matches. One big task for the new Head Coach will be to improve the road record, standing at 2-6-3, with four home matches left to play in their last nine matches.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match

Harrison Delbridge, FC Cincinnati – Harrison Delbridge was involved on both sides of the ball for FC Cincinnati, having a strong shot which cannoned back off the cross bar in the first half which nearly opened the scoring. On the defensive end, Delbridge cleared the ball off the line in the 40th minute, a vital part of the match, while routinely stopping Ottawa from attacking: making three tackles, five clearances, and one interception.
