Republic FC hosts Rangers in top-five Western clash

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC will try to rebound from only its second home loss of the season when it plays host to the Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday night at Papa Murphy’s Park in a contest that could play a role in top-four positioning for the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. PT.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-7-4, 34pts

  • Sacramento suffered a 2-1 defeat against regional rival Reno 1868 FC on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 11,569 fans at Papa Murphy’s Park.

  • Recent signing Hayden Partain opened the scoring for Sacramento, but Reno rallied for two first-half goals to claim the regular-season series between the teams.

  • Republic FC will be without midfielder Jeremy Hall and defender Chris Christian for the contest as both serve suspensions for caution accumulation.

  • Sacramento defender James Kiffe is sixth in the USL with 48 tackles won this season at a success rate of 76.19 percent.

Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • The Rangers rallied to earn a 2-2 draw with Western Conference-leader Real Monarchs SLC on Friday night after trailing by two goals at the halftime break.
