SAFC looks to get back in win column vs. WFC2

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC will try to close the gap on Real Monarchs SLC at the top of the Western Conference standings when it plays host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Wednsday night at Toyota Field, with WFC2 set to complete its trip to Texas in the contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

San Antonio FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-2-9, 42pts

  • San Antonio played to a 0-0 draw with OKC Energy FC on Saturday night, the third consecutive draw between the clubs this season.

  • SAFC remained 10 points back of Real Monarchs SLC going into this week’s action, but will have a chance to take advantage of its game in hand on the Monarchs as it hosts WFC2.

  • Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded his ninth shutout of the season against Energy FC, putting him four behind Brandon Miller’s USL single-season record of 13 shutouts set in 2015 with 10 games remaining.

  • San Antonio midfielder Billy Forbes is ninth in the USL this season with 126 duels won, but sits at only a 46.84-percent win percentage rate.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 4-12-7, 19pts

  • WFC2 was held to a 1-1 draw by Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday night at H-E-B Park as Deklan Wynne’s opening goal was cancelled out by the hosts in the second half.

  • Vancouver is looking for its first victory since a 1-0 win against the Portland Timbers 2 on June 2 at Providence Park.

  • WFC2 has gone 0-5-2 on the road since that victory, and is winless in its last 12 games overall.

  • Only David Norman Jr. and Gloire Amanda have recorded multiple assists this season for WFC2, both having recorded two.
