OTTAWA – 2016 USL All-League First Team selection Amer Didic has earned his first selection to the Canada Men’s National Team, one of 10 players with USL experience to be named in the squad for the game at BMO Field in Toronto on Sept. 2.

Also named in the squad is Louisville City FC’s Mark-Anthony Kaye, and former USL standouts Alphonso Davies (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Raheem Edwards (Toronto FC) and David Choiniere (Montreal Impact). Canada will be looking to reverse a 3-1 defeat to Jamaica at this past summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup when the sides square off.

Didic made 28 appearances a season ago as he helped lead the Swope Park Rangers to the 2016 USL Western Conference Championship in his rookie season. He has made 44 regular-season appearances for the USL club overall, and on May 31 was signed to an MLS contract by Sporting Kansas City.

Kaye was part of Canada’s 2017 Gold Cup squad, and made his full international debut against Costa Rica during the tournament. The 22-year-old had previously played alongside Didic for the Canada U23 National Team, and was among the goal-scorers last weekend as Louisville took a 5-0 victory against FC Cincinnati in front of a crowd of 13,812 fans at Slugger Field to move into second in the USL Eastern Conference.

A former member of Toronto FC’s Academy, Kaye played for TFC II in the USL prior to joining Louisville ahead of the 2016 season. The midfielder is excited to get the chance to return to his home and play in front of friends and family.

“It’s about dedication to hard work,” Kaye said in a press release. “I really need to thank all the players here at Louisville City FC and the coaches for putting me in the best position to be able to do that when I go to camp.

“This kind of tops off my year with the national team — to be able to go home and play in front of friends and family in my home city. This one just feels good.”

Davies, who remains the youngest goal-scorer in USL history for Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, was one of the breakout stars of this summer’s Gold Cup, earning Young Player of the Tournament honors in addition to the Golden Boot for his three goals. Former Toronto FC II standout Edwards was also named in that squad, and they are joined by Choiniere, who earns his first call-up to the squad having made 16 appearances in the USL last season before signing with the Impact.
