BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC announced on Saturday Maurice Edu had joined the club on loan from the club’s MLS partner the Philadelphia Union and was in the 27-man squad for Sunday’s game with Louisville City FC. Kickoff at Goodman Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Edu, 31, is returning from a left tibia stress fracture that has kept him off the field during the 2016 and 2017 MLS seasons. Edu made three appearances with Bethlehem Steel FC in 2016, playing 181 minutes last September. After his stint with Steel FC, Edu was part of the Union’s Matchday 18 twice before suffering an injury in training last October.

During Edu’s time with the Union, he has appeared in 53 league games and scored four goals. He has also notched a pair of goals in U.S. Open Cup play, including a goal against Seattle Sounders FC in the 2014 Final.

Edu brings an incredible amount of international experience, having played in Scotland, England and Turkey along with the United States Men’s National Team. Edu began his professional soccer career as the top pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft and scored four goals in his rookie season. In 2008, Edu decided to pursue opportunities overseas and spent time with Rangers F.C. in Scotland along with Stoke City and Bursaspor in Turkey before returning stateside.

Overall, Edu has started 90 games in MLS, scoring nine goals and adding five assists in more than 8,000 minutes of play.
