Steel FC welcomes Louisville for first meeting of 2017

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC and Louisville City FC will square off for the first time this season on Sunday evening at Goodman Stadium with the hosts looking to rebound from a narrow midweek loss, and the visitors aiming to build on the biggest league win in club history. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET.

Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-9-3, 33pts

  • Steel FC fell 1-0 to the Charlotte Independence on Wednesday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews despite a valiant effort against the Eastern Conference leader.

  • Bethlehem recorded a 17-15 edge in shots, and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal, but was unable to find a way past Independence goalkeeper Cody Mizell.

  • Former U.S. international Maurice Edu is included in the 27-man squad for Steel FC on Sunday as he returns from injury. Edu made three appearances on loan with Bethlehem in 2016.

  • Steel FC enters the weekend in sixth position in the USL’s Eastern Conference, and will hope to bolster its claim for a first postseason berth with a positive result.

Louisville City FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-4-5, 38pts

  • Louisville moved into second place in the USL Eastern Conference with a 5-0 victory against FC Cincinnati last Saturday in front of a club-record crowd of 13,812 fans at Slugger Field.

  • Forward Luke Spencer had a goal and two assists against FCC, and was voted the USL Player of the Week for his performance.

  • Louisville’s victory was its largest in club history, surpassing four-goal victories that included a 5-1 win against Saint Louis FC – another of its major rivals – last season.

  • Niall McCabe is tied for fifth in the USL with five Big Chances created this season, with Louisville sitting tied for first in the league with 30 overall.
