Low, diving stop for Roughnecks in Black Gold Derby topped weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC goalkeeper Fabian Cerda claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 21 of the 2017 season, with his low, diving save in the Black Gold Derby against OKC Energy FC last Saturday night at ONEOK Field finishing top of the weekly online poll.

Cerda has been one of the keys to the Roughnecks surge in performance this season, and was again at his best as Tulsa claimed the rivalry series for the first time with a six-save outing in the 2-1 victory. His best save of the night came in the 30th minute, as a back-post corner from the right by OKC’s Jose Barril found Sam Fink, whose powerful header was targeted for the left corner of the net until Cerda’s diving stop.

Cerda received 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC goalkeeper Moise Pouaty took second place for his excellent, one-handed save to deny Orange County SC’s Wuilito Ferndandes with 29 percent, while the Rochester Rhinos’ Dan Lynd finished third for his fingertip save on the Harrisburg City Islanders’ Paul Wilson with 20 percent.
