Former PDL standout joins Rochester to aid playoff push

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos announced on Monday the club had added D.C. United midfielder Julian Büscher on loan for the remainder of the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval.

Büscher has made six appearances for United in 2017, including a pair of starts that included the season-opener. Büscher recorded two goals and two assists in the club’s 4-1 victory against Christos FC in the Fourth Round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup this season.

The 11th overall selection in the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, Büscher made 20 appearances for United in his rookie season, including three starts. The former K-W United FC standout in the PDL scored a goal and contributed four assists in 583 minutes of MLS action, and also found the net against Liga MX’s Queretaro in the CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals.

A former standout at Syracuse University, Büscher helped lead the Orange to their first College Cup in the program’s 92-year history in 2015, starting all 25 matches and scoring eight goals and racking up 11 assists. Büscher was named to the College Soccer News’ All-America First Team, the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI, the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Tournament Team in addition to being a MAC Hermann Award semifinalist.

Prior to arriving at Syracuse, Büscher represented Germany on the U-16 and U-18 national teams. He played on the VFL Bochum, Preussen Muenster and Sportfreunde Lotte at the youth level and was named the top midfielder in the U-19 Bundeliga in the 2011-12 season.
