TULSATulsa Roughnecks FC entered ONEOK Field on Thursday in the eighth and final Western Conference playoff position, and the home side finished the night in seventh by topping Saint Louis FC 2-1. Jorge Luis Corrales’ sensational screamer in the 25th minute started the scoring, while Joey Calistri’s sixth goal of the season for Tulsa served as the game-winner. The match was made interesting in the 86th minute, when Modou Jadama scored an own goal, but the home side held on for the win. With the result, Roughnecks FC improves to 9-9-2 on the year. Saint Louis, meanwhile, moves to 6-9-5 overall and 2-6-3 on the road this season.

Scoring:
25’ – TUL – Jorge Luis Corrales
70’ – TUL – Joey Calistri (Brian Wright)
86’ – STL – Own Goal (Modou Jadama)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Left back Jorge Luis Corrales scored the game-winning goal for Roughnecks FC, but the club’s entire attack was active and impressive throughout the 90 minutes of action. Christian Thierjung, Joaquin Rivas, Brian Wright and Brandt Bronico shined, with Thierjung and Rivas creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities. In the second half, Wright showed off his perseverance and strength, as well as a bit of skill, on the ball. The forward used his size to win a battle working down the right wing, and his low cross to the top of the box in the 70th minute set up Joey Calistri, who scored the second goal of the match.
  • 2. Devala Gorrick was beaten twice at ONEOK Field, but the 30-year-old netminder made many big-time saves to keep Saint Louis FC in the fight throughout the night. Gorrick, who was named to the USL All-League Second Team in 2016, was quick off his line on multiple occasions, thwarting chance after chance Tulsa had. He also made a couple noteworthy saves against Joaquin Rives in the first half, including a spectacular acrobatic denial in the 42nd minute.
  • 3. While Roughnecks FC enjoyed the win on Thursday evening, the club suffered a major blow as Juan Pablo Caffa suffered an injury early into the match and had to be substituted off in the 18th minute. Caffa has been the engine for Tulsa this season, recording six goals – tied for second-most on the team – and a team-high five assists this campaign.
