CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati announced on Tuesday morning the club’s 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal against the New York Red Bulls at Nippert Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 15 had officially sold out. FCC recorded its largest sales day in club history in the process.

“To sell out on the first day of our public sale is tremendous and we are confirming that we do not have any seats available,” said FCC President and General Manager Jeff Berding. “Our sales team sold 16,000 tickets in roughly seven hours and we are thrilled that our fans are excited about our matchup against New York Red Bulls. The atmosphere at Nippert Stadium is going to be spectacular.”

“I want to thank our fans for their understanding and patience when our system went down. Despite all the preparatory measures we took with Glitnir, the demand was simply too much for the system. For those who are still trying to purchase a ticket for the match, I encourage you to sign on with us as a season ticket holder to receive priority in the future.”

Season ticket holders are given priority for Cup matches, international friendlies and playoff games to secure their current seats as well as to order additional seats. At 1 p.m. yesterday, FCC opened its remaining inventory to the public. The Glitnir ticketing system went down shortly at that time and the sales was unable to facilitate any sales. Shortly after 7 p.m. online sales resumed until this morning.

FC Cincinnati has previously hosted a pair of games against MLS opposition in this year’s edition of the Open Cup. The club welcomed 30,160 fans for a 1-0 victory against Columbus Crew SC on June 14, and then 32,287 for a penalty shootout victory against the Chicago Fire on June 28. The attendance against the Fire currently stands as the second-highest attended Open Cup game in history, but will be surpassed by next Tuesday’s crowd.

FCC became the first USL club to reach the Open Cup Semifinals since 2011 with a 1-0 victory against Miami FC last Wednesday night, reaching the same stage as the Richmond Kickers six seasons ago. The club will be the first USL side to host an Open Cup semifinal since 2008, when the Charleston Battery hosted then-USL club Seattle Sounders FC for a place in the final. The Battery are the most recent USL side to reach the Open Cup Final.
