TAMPA, Fla. – Nansel Selbol beautiful finish for the Swope Park Rangers against Seattle Sounders FC 2 has been voted the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month for July of the 2017 season. Selbol’s goal, which also claimed the Week 18 Fans’ Choice award, helped the Rangers complete a perfect trip through Cascadia as the side finished the month in the top three in the Western Conference.
Selbol had been introduced as a substitute just before the hour-mark with the Rangers already holding a one-goal lead against S2 at Starfire Stadium on July 20. The 20-year-old Nigerian ensured the visitors’ victory as the side broke forward with seven minutes to go as a counterattack left the Rangers with a numerical advantage. Mark Anthony Gonzalez led the play, and provided a perfect pass for Selbol to curl home a first-time finish from 25 yards that bent around the goalkeeper and into the right corner of the net.
Selbol’s goal received 30 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. Louisville City FC’s Oscar Jimenez finished second with 23 percent for his excellent piece of skill and low finish against Saint Louis FC, while the Harrisburg City Islanders’ Ropapa Mensah finished third with 16 percent for his outstanding game-winner against the Richmond Kickers at FNB Field.
