ORLANDOUp against a talented Orlando City B team at Orlando City Stadium, the the Harrisburg City Islanders recorded their first road shutout since May 12 in a 0-0 draw on Wednesday evening. The City Islanders had an opportunity to take the advantage in the fourth minute of action, as OCB turned the ball over in their own half, but Paul Wilson’s right-footed shot careened off the crossbar and back into play. Orlando also had a chance hit the crossbar, as Pierre Da Silva’s cross into the box caused Harrisburg goalkeeper Brandon Miller to make a last-second save. With the result, Orlando recorded its fifth consecutive draw and is now 5-6-9, while the City Islanders are now 6-9-6.

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Returning to the lineup after suspension, Pierre Da Silva showed why he was named the No. 1 player in the 2017 USL 20 Under 20. The talented midfielder created opportunities for his teammates moving forward and nearly scored in the 27th minute by sending a dangerous cross into the box. Working mostly down the left wing, he caused problems all evening for the City Islanders.

  • 2. Coming into the match one point behind the eighth-place New York Red Bulls II, both OCB and the City Islanders had an opportunity to take sole possession of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. However, neither side could find a breakthrough despite multiple chances hitting the woodwork or sizzling just wide of the goal. One of the best opportunities for either side in the match happened in the 87th minute, as a well-struck shot from City Islanders forward Ropapa Mensah fizzed just wide of the right post. On the other end, Scott Thomsen had a quality chance to get a late goal in the second half, but Brandon Miller made the important save in the 94th minute.

  • 3. Led by Lee Nishanian, the City Islanders turned in one of their best defensive performances of the season. Nishanian was vital to the team’s success, as the team completed a total of 24 clearances – eight more than OCB on the night – while also committing eight less fouls. The shutout is the club’s seventh of the year.
