FENTON, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced on Wednesday the signing of midfielder Emmanuel Appiah for the remainder of the 2017 season.

Appiah was a first-round selection by the Colorado Rapids in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft after featuring for the University of Cincinnati and the Premier Development League’s GPS Portland Phoenix. He made two appearances on loan in the USL with the Charlotte Independence before joining Sporting Kansas City in July.

The 23-year-old made his first MLS appearance for SKC on August 13 against FC Dallas, but spent the majority of his time at the club in the USL on loan with the Swope Park Rangers. Appiah made eight appearances in the USL regular season for Swope Park, and all four of the Rangers’ games in the USL Cup Playoffs as the side earned the 2016 USL Western Conference Championship.

Originally born in Ghana, Appiah’s family move to Ohio when he was young. In his collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati he made 65 appearances and recorded seven goals. He also made 10 appearances for GPS Portland Phoenix in the 2013 PDL season, helping the side reach the PDL Playoffs that summer.
