Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes
Current record: 6-8-3, 21pts
Rio Grande Valley is looking for a turnaround after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Orange County SC on Saturday night in the back end of their home-and-home series.
The Toros are winless in their last three games, and have won only once in their last six outings to slide to 12th place in the Western Conference.
Rio Grande Valley has yet to score a headed goal this season, with Kai Greene and T.J. Casner the only players on the squad with multiple headed shots on goal this season.
Former Toros midfielder Charlie Ward made his MLS debut for the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, playing 45 minutes in a 3-1 win against D.C. United.
Real Monarchs SLC news and notes
Current record: 14-2-2, 44pts
The Monarchs rallied twice in a 2-2 draw against San Antonio FC on Saturday night at Toyota Park in a top-three Western Conference clash.
Max Lachowecki scored with four minutes to go to earn a point for Real, who are now six points clear at the top of the Western Conference.
Chandler Hoffman scored his 12th goal of the season against San Antonio with a first-half penalty kick, and is now just two goals back of league-leader Romario Williams of the Charleston Battery.
Hoffman’s goal was his 43rd all-time in the USL regular season, and moved him into sole possession of third place in the league’s history past former Richmond Kickers standout Matthew Delicate.
