PITTSBURGH (July 24, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host the second night of their Health Series with Concussion Awareness Night at Highmark Stadium on Wednesday, July 26 when the Hounds host the Charleston Battery.

Presented by Allegheny Health Network (AHN) – the official medical provider of the Riverhounds – the Health Series is designed to educate fans and generate awareness about a range of health topics including heart disease prevention, pediatric orthopaedic and concussion awareness, prostate and cancer awareness, and ways to live a healthy life and avoid injury.

AHN will have on hand a 20-foot inflatable brain for fans to walk through. Fans will also have the opportunity to engage with orthopaedic, neuroscience and concussions specialists.

“Sports-related concussions account for more than half of all head injuries in young people under the age of 19,” said Craig Castor, sports medicine supervisor at AHN. “We look forward to talking with Riverhounds fans to answer their questions about concussions and also to drive awareness about the importance of seeking medical attention when someone in their family has sustained a head injury.”

AHN was the first provider of C3 Logix testing in western Pennsylvania, and is one of just a few medical centers nationally using the groundbreaking concussion management technology. The system combines a computerized neurocognitive exam with a novel tablet-based technology that tracks an athlete’s dynamic vision, reflexes, balance, and postural stability. The data collected after a potential head injury is compared with baseline readings to give trainers, doctors and athletes more information to help treat and manage the injury.

To make an appointment for baseline concussion testing, families should call 412.DOCTORS.

Delivering the game ball prior to kickoff will be orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Sam Akhavan, MD, as well as family and sports medicine physician Jason Fronczak, DO.
