OKLAHOMA CITY –  A pair of braces from Miguel Gonzalez and midseason addition Jose Angulo proved to be enough for OKC Energy FC to hold off a comeback effort from Colorado Switchbacks FC in a 4-3 win at Taft Stadium on Saturday. Though Jordan Burt put the visitors on the board first in the 25th minute, Gonzalez and Angulo each scored twice as Energy FC rattled off four unanswered goals in a span of 21 minutes on the game clock. Burt grabbed a second when he converted from the spot and Kevaughn Frater bounced back from failing to convert penalty of his own to pull Switchbacks FC within one in the 72nd minute. OKC saw out the remainder of the match though to even the season series at 1-1-1 and run its record to 6-8-4 overall (5-2-1 home). After a second consecutive loss, the Switchbacks stand at 6-8-6 overall and 2-6-3 away from home.

Three Things That Matter:
 

• 1. The four-goal outburst marked the best offensive performance of the season for Energy FC and the first time that the club has scored four or more in a regular season match since a 4-3 win at Portland on August 8, 2015. Angulo, who led Saint Louis FC in scoring before leaving on loan, proved he could be the impact player that Jimmy Nielsen and company have been searching for in a season that has seen the side drop five games that were decided by just one goal. With an effort like Saturday’s in toe, Oklahoma City may be primed to register its first set of back-to-back wins since May when it heads to Los Angeles to face Los Dos next Sunday.

• 2. Contrary to the previous two meetings between the two sides this season which included a 1-1 draw (April 1) and a 1-0 Switchbacks win (June 3) at Weidner Field, the third and final installment of the season series was filled with goals. Energy FC and Colorado Springs each entered the contest among the top five in the Western Conference in goals allowed and the back-and-forth affair served as a microcosm of the defensive inconsistency that has both sides on the edge of the playoff picture.
   
• 3. Away from home and down three goals, the Switchbacks displayed the type of resilience that has seen them produce results under thrilling circumstances over the course of the season. The comeback on Saturday was not to be, but Colorado Springs held the Energy to just one shot attempt in the final half hour while pulling two back, reminding Western Conference foes that taking three points from the Switchbacks is never assured until the final whistle.
