New York Red Bulls II news and notes
Current record: 6-10-3, 21pts
The Red Bulls II fell 3-2 last Saturday to the Charlotte Independence at MSU Soccer Park as a late comeback attempt fell short.
Goals in the final 10 minutes by David Najem and Junior Flemmings pulled the hosts within a goal, but New York was unable to find a late equalizer.
Saturday’s game marked the return to the team of defender Noah Powder, who had made 20 appearances as an Academy signing in 2016. Powder signed a USL contract with the club last week.
Flemmings’ goal against Charlotte saw Vincent Bezecourt record his eighth assist of the season, which stands as the league-high.
Toronto FC II news and notes
Current record: 3-9-5, 14pts
Toronto took a 1-0 victory against Battle of Ontario rivals Ottawa Fury FC in its last outing on July 8 as Luca Uccello’s goal provided the winner.
Uccello’s goal was his third of the season, matching the Canada U20 international’s total from 2016.
Toronto is looking for its first back-to-back victories since the side defeated Bethlehem Steel FC and the Harrisburg City Islanders between July 6-10, 2016.
TFC II’s seven shutouts are tied for second in the USL this season alongside six other teams, with San Antonio FC leading the pack with 10.
