RICHMOND, Va. – Swansea City AFC scored a late winner against the Richmond Kickers, who welcomed a crowd of 8,119 to City Stadium on Wednesday night for the club’s international exhibition at City Stadium. Tammy Abraham scored the winner for the Premier League side after Kickers forward Franck Tayou had leveled the score midway through the second half in the second meeting between the two clubs.

The Kickers’ first chance on the night came in the fifth minute when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. Sunny Jane stepped up, but was unable to find the target as his shot went just high of the net.

Swansea’s first real opportunity arrived 10 minutes later from a corner kick, which saw Jay Fulton fire over from the edge of the penalty area after a half-clearance by the hosts. Four minutes later Matt Grimes connected with Oli McBurnie near the far post for the Swans. Finding space, McBurnie grazed the outside of the post as his finish went behind for a goal kick.

The Swans continued to press as Luciano Narsignh recorded the first shot on goal for the visitors as he headed on goal from Jefferson Montero’s cross, but Kickers goalkeeper Matt Turner was on hand to make the save.

The breakthrough for the visitors arrived three minutes before halftime, however, as Kyle Brantley broke into the penalty area toward the goal line. Before he could deliver a cross, a challenge by Kickers defender Braeden Troyer brought him down, resulting in a penalty kick. McBurnie took the penalty and sent it out of Turner’s reach into the right corner as the goalkeeper guessed correctly.

A 2-0 winner against the Swans in their first meeting a year ago, the Kickers got back on level terms in the 69th minute. Second-half substitute Finnlay Wyatt won the ball out wide and delivered a perfect cross to Tayou, who played a header over Edwin Mulder in the Swansea goal to draw the game level. The goal was Tayou’s second for the club since joining the Kickers in midseason.

But ten minutes later the Swans retook the lead as Abraham scored on his debut for the club. Jordan Ayew played a pass out wide to Martin Olsson, giving the Swedish midfielder space to pick out Abraham in the center of the penalty area, where he placed his shot under Kickers substitute goalkeeper Marcel DeBellis to gain the late advantage.
