Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 7-8-2, 23pts

  • Seattle continued its recent run of up-and-down form with a 4-1 defeat against Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • S2 has now alternated wins and losses over its last six games, with a 2-2 draw on May 28 against Sacramento Republic FC the prior result to that run.

  • Seattle has performed well at Starfire Stadium in recent contests, going 3-0-1 since a loss to San Antonio FC in May.

  • S2 defender Sam Rogers was named to the USSF Development Academy Western Conference U18 Best XI on Thursday. Rogers, who signed professionally with S2 recently, has logged 1,260 minutes in the USL this season.

Orange County SC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-4-3, 15pts

  • Orange County was denied a big home win in its last outing as a stoppage-time goal by Didier Drogba earned Phoenix Rising FC a 1-1 draw at Orange County Great Park.

  • Fullback Roy Meeus appeared to have steered Orange County to all three points with a free kick tally with six minutes to go, but Drogba struck from a free kick of his own to level the game.

  • Orange County currently sit seven points out of the Western Conference playoff positions, but has five games in hand on eighth-place Tulsa Roughnecks FC, and six in hand on S2 going into the weekend.

  • Meeus is now tied for the team-high with three goals this season, and the Belgian defender is one away from equaling his four goals in the 2016 USL season for OCSC.

Series Notes

  • Orange County took a 2-1-1 lead all-time with a 4-3 victory last month against S2, its second consecutive win in the series.
