Battery look to maintain lead at top of East, visit STLFC

FENTON, Mo. – The Charleston Battery will look to maintain, or extend, their lead at the top of the USL Eastern Conference when they visit a Saint Louis FC side that is struggling for form at Toyota Park – Saint Louis on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Saint Louis FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-7-4, 16pts

  • Saint Louis fell 5-1 to the Charlotte Independence last Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews as the club’s winless streak reached six games.

  • STLFC made a pair of moves with OKC Energy FC this week, loaning forward Jose Angulo to OKC, while acquiring Daniel Jackson in a permanent move.

  • Angulo was tied for the team-lead with four goals this season, and led the team with 15 total shots.

  • Saint Louis will be without Emir Alihodzic, who begins serving a three-game suspension for his red card against Charlotte on Saturday.

  • Current record: 10-2-5, 35pts

  • Charleston played to a 1-1 draw with second-place Louisville City FC last Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium to remain six points clear in the Eastern Conference.

  • Justin Portillo scored his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot to open the scoring before the visitors answered shortly afterward to leave the game level.

  • Portillo ranks seventh in the USL with 845 passes attempted, and has also notched five assists this season to put him tied for fifth in the league.

  • Charleston forward Romario Williams was named the USL Player of the Month for June on Thursday, and also scored his first goal for Jamaica on Sunday against Curacao at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
