Fury FC looks to jump into playoff positions as Rhinos visit

OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC will try to jump back into the playoff positions in the Eastern Conference when it plays host to the Rochester Rhinos at TD Place on Saturday afternoon in the second meeting of the season between the clubs. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.

  • Current record: 5-6-5, 20pts

  • Fury FC suffered a second consecutive loss in league action last Saturday as Luca Uccello’s goal gave Toronto FC II a 1-0 victory at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

  • Ottawa enters the second half of its first season in the USL in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, but a win could move the side into the playoff positions.

  • Fury FC was in action on Wednesday night as 6,601 fans came to TD Place to see the club’s exhibition against the Montreal Impact.

  • The game marked a final appearance for assistant coach and former Canadian international Julian de Guzman, who came out of retirement to make one final appearance for his hometown club.

Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • The Rhinos grabbed a late 1-0 victory against the Harrisburg City Islanders last Saturday at Capelli Sport Stadium to bolster their playoff position.

  • Jochen Graf scored the only goal of the game with five minutes to go off an assist by Joe Farrell for Graf’s third goal this season.

  • Farrell was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday, with the center back also completing 68-of-72 passes and making two interceptions for the contest.

  • Goalkeeper Tomas Gomez recorded his seventh shutout in the win, which moved him into a tie for first in the USL with San Antonio FC’s Diego Restrepo.
