ORLANDO, Fla. – Danny Deakin converted a penalty kick deep into second-half stoppage time to help Orlando City B find a big equalizer and draw 1-1 with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in Thursday's I-4 Derby match at Orlando City Stadium. With a minimum of seven minutes of stoppage time added in the second half, OCB had enough time to press for a game-tying goal, and the club found its moment when Richie Laryea was taken down in the box. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Deakin slotted the ball into the right of the frame as Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens anticipated the shot going the opposite direction. Martin Paterson scored a 21st-minute goal for the Rowdies. Tampa Bay leads the I-4 Derby with a 1-0-1 record, and the two sides will meet once more during the final week of the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 12, at Orlando City Stadium. Orlando is now 5-6-7 (22 points) overall and 1-2-6 at home and Tampa Bay moves to 7-6-7 (28 points) overall and 1-4-5 on the road.

Three Things That Mattered:

• 1. OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis made it abundantly clear how he felt regarding the host club’s offense less than 20 minutes into the second half. Pulis made two attack-minded subs in the 64th minute after Orlando still had not posted a shot on frame, with Ben Polk replacing Austin Martz to join Hadji Barry and Richie Laryea in the front line, and 19-year-old Cameroonian Albert Dikwa subbing for midfielder Tony Rocha. Ultimately, it was the third sub, Danny Deakin, who finally was able to break through for a penalty kick conversion. That PK also happened to be the only shot OCB put on frame as the host side wound up with nine shots overall.

• 2. The Rowdies opened the game in a heavy defensive shape, so much so that a couple potential counterattacking opportunities were all for naught because they had no numbers to join in the attack. In their opening goal, it was against the run of play a bit, with Tampa Bay captain Joe Cole providing the setup role as soon as he got himself back off the ground. Cole popped up and spotted Martin Paterson making a run into the left side of the box and Paterson one-timed his shot into the upper right corner of the frame for his fourth of the season and a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. It was the only shot on frame for either team in the first half. Cole notched his fourth assist of the season to share the club lead with Michael Nanchoff.

• 3. While Tampa Bay certainly will feel that a couple points were lost, the Rowdies can look in the mirror and say that they did just about everything they needed to do to stay the course following last Thursday’s 2-0 win against FC Cincinnati. Between an early goal and some team defending, the Rowdies mustered a road point and now prepare for a three-game home stand to enjoy the comforts of Al Lang Stadium, a locale where they have delivered with consistency this year.
