Earns second weekly award of the season for save against Riverhounds

TAMPA, Fla. – Charlotte Independence goalkeeper Cody Mizell claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 16 of the 2017 season, claiming the weekly award for the second time this season for his fine save against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the weekly online poll.

A nominee for the USL Player of the Month award for June, Mizell earned Save of the Week honors in Week 10 of the season for a big stop against Orlando City B. Last Tuesday on the road against Pittsburgh he continued his stellar season, making a reflex stop to deny Riverhounds leading scorer Corey Hertzog’s fine header.

Mizell received 78 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. OKC Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi took second with 16 percent for another excellent close-range save to deny Tulsa Roughnecks FC forward Ian Svantesson, while Tampa Bay Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens finished third for his diving save on FC Cincinnati’s Djiby Fall last Thursday night.
