Playoff contenders square off for second time this season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC and the New York Red Bulls II will both aim at continuing their pushes for the USL Cup Playoffs when they meet at Goodman Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Steel FC having taken its first win against their northeaster rivals when they met previously this season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET.

Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 7-6-2, 23pts

  • Steel FC claimed a 1-1 draw with the Richmond Kickers last Saturday night to extend the club’s undefeated streak to six games.

  • Aaron Jones scored his first professional goal in the contest to level the score after Richmond had taken the lead in the first half.

  • Bethlehem will be without forward Cory Burke, who is on international duty for Jamaica at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

  • Steel FC will also be without defender Hugh Roberts, who will serve a one-game suspension after being sent off in the game against the Kickers.

New York Red Bulls II news and notes

  • Current record: 6-7-3, 21pts

  • The Red Bulls II notched a 1-0 victory against Saint Louis FC last Saturday evening to return to the top eight in the Eastern Conference.

  • Brandon Allen scored the only goal of the game, and also created eight scoring chances, as he was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.

  • Allen’s goal was his 30th all-time for the Red Bulls II, with 24 regular-season goals and six in the USL Cup Playoffs over the past season-and-a-half.

  • Red Bulls II midfielder Arun Basuljevic leads the USL with 1,147 passes attempted this season. Basuljevic and Sacramento Republic FC’s Jeremy Hall are the only players to have surpassed 1,000 passes this season.
