Black Gold Derby kicks off for new season at Taft Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2017 edition of the Black Gold Derby between OKC Energy FC and Tulsa Roughnecks FC kicks off at Taft Stadium on Saturday night with both Energy FC and the Roughnecks looking to boost their playoff hopes with a win. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-7-3, 18pts

  • Energy FC returns home after a four-game road trip that saw the side go 1-2-1, including a 3-1 loss on Wednesday night against Real Monarchs SLC.

  • Alex Dixon found an equalizer midway through the first half after OKC had fallen behind early, but two Real goals in the final 20 minutes gave the hosts victory at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • Dixon’s goal was his fourth of the season, putting him level with Andy Craven for the team-lead.

  • Energy FC will be without defender Coady Andrews against the Roughnecks after he was sent off in the loss to the Monarchs.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 6-8-0, 18pts

  • The Roughnecks claimed a 2-0 victory against Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday night at ONEOK Field to break a three-game losing streak.

  • Joaquin Rivas and Ian Svantesson found then net in the win, which broke Western Conference leader Real’s 10-game undefeated streak.

  • Svantesson is now tied for eighth in the USL with six goals in 14 appearances this season, his first in Tulsa.

  • Roughnecks playmaker Juan Pablo Caffa leads the USL with 122 crosses this season, and is fifth in the league with 34 chances created.
