Independence visit Pittsburgh on three-game win streak

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Charlotte Independence meet for a special Fourth of July showdown at Highmark Stadium that features two Eastern Conference playoffs contenders, with the Independence entering on a three-game winning streak. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 5-6-4, 19pts

  • The Riverhounds recorded a 2-0 victory against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in their last outing on July 22, as Chevaughn Walsh and Romeo Parkes found the net either side of halftime.

  • Goalkeeper Keasel Broome produced a standout display in goal, earning USL Team of the Week honors for his five-save shutout.

  • The Riverhounds sit 11th going into the week’s action, but would move firmly into the top eight in the Eastern Conference with a victory on Tuesday.

  • Walsh’s goal was his first this season, while Parkes’ was his second for the side in seven appearances since re-joining the Riverhounds.

  • The game marked the third in a row where the Independence had notched two goals, as the victory moved the side into fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
