Orange County looks to build on wild win in last outing

IRVINE, Calif. – Orange County SC will try to continue its move up the Western Conference standings on Saturday evening when it plays host to the struggling Portland Timbers 2 at Orange County Great Park in the second meeting between the clubs this season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT.

Orange County SC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-4-1, 13pts

  • Orange County earned a 4-3 victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday evening as it held on late after taking a three-goal lead in the first half.

  • Goals by Roy Meeus from the penalty spot and Carlos Alvarez surrounded an S2 own goal, but OCSC needed Gustavo Villalobos’ 80th-minute tally to give it a cushion late against the visitors.

  • Orange County is now 2-1-0 at its new home venue, and will host one more game in its current homestand on July 8 when Phoenix Rising FC visits.

  • Alvarez’s goal was his first this season, and marked his first appearance on the scoresheet since recording two assists in OCSC’s season-opening 2-0 win against Reno 1868 FC on March 25.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 1-13-1, 4pts

  • Portland’s struggles continued last Saturday night when the side fell 2-0 to Reno 1868 FC as former T2 player Seth Casiple scored the opening goal.

  • T2 has now lost six consecutive games, and is seven points adrift at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

  • Midfielder Andre Lewis ranks fifth in the USL with 807 attempted passes this season. The Jamaican has a completion rate of 88.4 percent and has created eight scoring chances this season.
