Standout attacks square off in big Western Conference clash

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC and Phoenix Rising FC square off for the second time this season on Friday night at Greater Nevada Field, with 1868 FC looking to regain a top-four position in the Western Conference, and Rising FC looking to break into the top eight. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Reno 1868 FC news and notes

  • Current record: 6-4-3, 21pts

  • Reno earned a 2-0 victory against the Portland Timbers 2 last Saturday night at Providence Park to rebound from their prior loss to Real Monarchs SLC.

  • Former T2 player Seth Casiple scored the opening goal of the game for 1868 FC, as he made a successful return to Providence Park.

  • 1868 FC leading scorer Dane Kelly, who sits second in the USL with 12 goals, will be available for selection after missing the final cut for Jamaica’s 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.

  • The 17 combined goals by Kelly and Antoine Hoppenot put them second to only the Charleston Battery’s Romario Williams and Forrest Lasso (19) for most goals by two teammates this USL season.

Phoenix Rising FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-5-2, 17pts

  • Rising FC has recorded back-to-back draws after finishing level 1-1 with Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.

  • Omar Bravo scored his first league goal for Rising FC just before the halftime break as he tucked home a low cross by Matt Watson from the right side of the penalty area.

  • Phoenix is the only team in the USL that has yet to record a shutout this season, as starting goalkeeper Josh Cohen holds a .625 save percentage and 1.64 goals-against average.

  • Rising FC is undefeated in its first three games under new Head Coach Patrice Carteron, going 1-0-2 over that span.
