NASHVILLE (June 24, 2017) – Saturday night, Vanderbilt soccer stadium featured the first of two contests between Nashville SC U23 and Derby City Rovers, a non-conference opponent from the Central Conference of the PDL. Nashville SC was the victor by a final score of 2-1.  The teams will meet again in Nashville SC’s final game of the regular season in Louisville, KY on July 12th.

Nashville SC U23 began the scoring in their second to last home game of their push for the playoffs when Damilola Omitaomu found Alex Stoiljkovic in the box who finished with an easy touch in the 13th minute.  The visitors from Louisville, KY tallied their first goal when youngster Jack Fasteen (16 yrs old) sent a half-volley back on goal that squeeked just inside the post for a goal.

Cory Thomas of the Rovers had an attempt rejected by the post in the 40th minute on a beautiful breakaway attempt.  The home team saw an opportunity sail over the bar in the 41st minute when Omitaomu centered a ball to Logan Paynter but the shot sailed high.  Neither team would find the net again in the first half as the teams went to the locker room with the scoreboard locked at 1-1.

Coach Roelke added several pairs of fresh legs to the Nashville SC U23 second half lineup and the home team came out attacking.  After a series of shots by NSC U23 eon the Rovers goal in the 58th minute, Brad Ross eventually found Blake Wilson near the penalty spot and Wilson put the ball into the Rover’s net with what would ultimately be the game winning goal.
