California rivalry resumes as Los Dos hosts Republic FC

CARSON, Calif. – The rivalry between the LA Galaxy II and Sacramento Republic FC kicks off for the first time in the 2017 season on Sunday night as Los Dos welcomes its northern California guests to the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium with both teams coming off solid victories. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.

LA Galaxy II news and notes

  • Current record: 3-8-2, 11pts

  • The Galaxy II broke a four-game winless streak last Saturday night with a 1-0 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park.

  • 16-year-old forward Jonah Estrada’s first professional goal proved the difference as he found the net with 20 minutes go to in the game.

  • The shutout against the Toros was the first in USL play for goalkeeper Eric Lopez. The 18-year-old has made the first three starts of his career in 2017 after original signing for Los Dos in November, 2014.

  • The Galaxy II have now claimed two road wins this season to one on home turf. The last time Los Dos won at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium was the opening night of the 2017 USL season on March 25.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 6-6-3, 21pts

  • Republic FC romped to a 6-2 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC on Wednesday night in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 at Papa Murphy’s Park.

  • Trevin Caesar scored a hat trick and notched an assist as Sacramento took a four-goal lead before the Toros could respond. Wilson Kneeshaw, Tyler Blackwood and Dan Trickett-Smith also found the net.

  • Caesar’s hat trick was the third in Republic FC history, following Tommy Stewart and Rodrigo Lopez, both of whom achieved the feat in the 2014 season.

  • Sacramento will return to StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium on Wednesday night to face the LA Galaxy in the Round of 16 in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
