ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Brazilian midfielder Timbo scored off of a Pierre Da Silva assist to lead Orlando City B to a 1-0 victory against the Rochester Rhinos on Friday at Capelli Sport Stadium. The Rhinos fell for the first time since their lopsided 5-0 defeat to the Charleston Battery on April 15. They had an eight-game unbeaten run (4-0-4), but that was put to rest as Orlando capitalized on its early scoring chance from Timbo in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. might not have had a busy night, but he made the save of the match in the 72nd minute with a fingertip stop against Rochester’s Jordan Dover from point-blank range to preserve the clean sheet. It marked Orlando’s lone win of a three-game road trip after suffering 1-0 losses to Toronto FC II and Ottawa Fury FC. OCB will now head home for its next three matches. Orlando improves to 5-6-4 (19 points) overall and 4-4-1 on the road. Rochester drops to 5-2-5 (20 points) overall and 4-1-2 at home.

Scoring:
18’ – ORL – Timbo (Pierre Da Silva)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Orlando had lagged in the scoring column in recent matches, but OCB picked the right moment to break the two-game drought, despite trailing from a possession standpoint in the opening minutes. OCB drew a free kick from the left side, and while Joe Gallardo’s attempt was blocked, the secondary surge from Pierre Da Silva broke down the Rhinos. Da Silva dribbled his way past Stefan Defregger and Kenardo Forbes toward the end line, then crossed in to Brazilian midfielder Timbo who made a simple redirect inside the six-yard area for the game’s opening goal in the 18th minute for a 1-0 lead. Da Silva’s assist was his sixth of the season to share the league lead with the New York Red Bulls II’s Vincent Bezecourt and Real Monarchs SLC’s Sebastian Velasquez.

  • 2. The first-half goal was the only shot on frame between the two teams in the opening 45 minutes. Orlando one additional moment that struck the frame and nearly put the visiting side up a couple goals heading into halftime. Albert Dikwa’s rifle from the left side of the box in the 43rd minute hit the underside of the crossbar and Rochester was fortunate that the ball popped out in front of the goal line.

  • 3. OCB takes the season series against Rochester with a 1-0-1 record. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw on June 7 at Orlando City Stadium. If that series record feels familiar, it is because Orlando took the 2016 season series at 1-0-1 as well and now moves to 2-0-2 all-time against the Rhinos.
