Scissor-kick finish in debut for Kickers edges out Wiedeman

TAMPA, Fla. – Richmond Kickers forward Franck Tayou claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 13 of the 2017 season, as his scissor-kick finish in his debut for the Kickers on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Rowdies edged out FC Cincinnati’s Andrew Wiedeman in the weekly online poll.

A standout at San Antonio FC in 2016, Tayou made an immediate impression in front of the Kickers’ support to earn the side a dramatic draw against the Rowdies. Trailing by a goal in the final minute, a hopeful ball upfield was knocked down at the top of the penalty area. Tayou was in the right position to strike the ball cleanly out of the reach of Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens and into the right corner of the net, setting off a celebration that saw him and his teammates run the length of the field to join the River City Red Army.

Tayou earned 33 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Wiedeman’s clever piece of control and strong low finish that earned FCC a 2-2 draw with the Charleston Battery on Saturday night finished second with 32 percent, while Kris Tyrpak’s standout strike from the top of the penalty area for San Antonio FC against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday night finished third with 15 percent.
