Riverhounds, Rowdies look to end winless streaks

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Tampa Bay Rowdies will both look to earn their first wins in the month of June when they meet for the first time since the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 4-6-4, 16pts

  • The Riverhounds suffered their heaviest defeat of the season in their last outing as Louisville City FC took a 3-0 victory at Slugger Field on Saturday night.

  • It was the second game this season in which the Riverhounds conceded three goals in a game, with the first the club’s season-opening 3-3 draw with the New York Red Bulls II.

  • Pittsburgh is currently on a five-game winless streak that has seen the team slide to 11th place in the USL’s Eastern Conference.

  • The Riverhounds have scored 13 goals on 130 total shots this season, with Corey Hertzog’s six goals accounting for almost have of the side’s attack in 2017.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 6-3-6, 24pts

  • The Rowdies saw victory grabbed away late in its last outing as the Richmond Kickers scored in the final minute to earn a 1-1 draw at City Stadium on Saturday night.

  • The defeat saw Tampa Bay drop to third in the USL’s Eastern Conference, one point behind Louisville City FC after its victory against the Riverhounds, and put the side on a five-game winless streak.

  • Tampa Bay will be without defender Damion Lowe after his selection to the Jamaica squad for this week’s final stage of the CFU Caribbean Cup.

  • The Rowdies announced on Tuesday the departure of Deshorn Brown, who made the move to Major League Soccer’s D.C. United after scoring three goals in 14 appearances for Tampa Bay.

  • This is the first league meeting between the teams, but the Riverhounds took a 1-0 win when the sides met in the Third Round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on a goal by Rob Vincent.
