Republic FC welcomes Toros for USL Game of the Week on ESPN3

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC will welcome fellow Western Conference playoff contender Rio Grande Valley FC for the second meeting of the season between the teams at Papa Murphy’s Park on Wednesday night in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. PT, and the Video Assistant Referee system will be in use for the game.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-6-3, 18pts

  • Sacramento earned a 2-1 victory on Saturday night against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 as Augustin Cazarez scored the winner with 14 minutes to go at Papa Murphy’s Park.

  • The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for Republic FC, and moved the club back into the playoff positions in the Western Conference.

  • Kickoff for Wednesday night's game was moved back by 15 minutes from its original time to allow for high temperatures in the region. Ticket holders to the game will also be provided hand fans courtesy of UC Davis Health and free ice cream. 

  • Republic FC will have midfielder Danny Barrera available for selection after serving a one-game suspension on Saturday. Barrera leads the USL with 39 chances created this season.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-5-2, 17pts

  • The Toros fell 1-0 to the LA Galaxy II on Saturday night despite drawing a regular-season high crowd of 8,656 fans to H-E-B Park.

  • RGVFC has now won only once in its past five games to slide to the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference.

  • The Toros have conceded only 10 goals in 12 games this season, the second-fewest in the Western Conference behind San Antonio FC.

  • RGVFC is 1-2-1 on the road so far this season. The Toros earned seven victories on the road in the 2016 USL regular season.

  • Sacramento earned the only victory in the series last season, with a 1-0-2 advantage in the series after the teams played to a 0-0 draw earlier this season at Papa Murphy’s Park.
