Second meeting of season sees Toros aiming to build on big win

  • Rio Grande Valley earned a 3-1 victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday night at H-E-B Park as second-half goals by Ruben Luna and Ivan Magalhaes earned victory.

  • The victory broke a three-game winless streak for the Toros, and moved the club into fifth place in the tightly packed Western Conference standings.

  • Seven players from RGVFC were called into the Houston Dynamo’s squad for Wednesday’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contest, with Luna, Eric Bird, Charlie Ward and Jorginho all seeing action.

  • The Dynamo earned a 3-2 victory against North Carolina FC thanks to former Toros forward Memo Rodriguez’s overtime goal, which sent the side into the Fifth Round.

LA Galaxy II news and notes

  • Current record: 2-8-2, 10pts

  • The Galaxy II suffered a late 2-1 defeat against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday night as Kevaughn Frater’s 90th-minute goal earned the visitors victory at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium.

  • The loss was Los Dos’ third in a row, leaving the side in 14th place in the Western Conference ahead of only the Portland Timbers 2.

  • Ten current and former Galaxy II players were in the starting lineup for the Galaxy on Wednesday night as LA defeated Orange County SC in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

  • Jose Villarreal, Jack McBean and Ariel Lassiter found the net for the Galaxy to send the side into a Fifth Round contest against the USL’s Sacramento Republic FC.
